VETERAN OF WAR ON DRUGS TO RETURN TO WEST POINT

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Gen. Barry McCaffrey, for five years the nation's point
man in the war against drugs, is going back to the classroom.

The decorated four-star general and 1966 graduate of the U.S. Military
Academy will return to West Point to teach.

McCaffrey earned two Distinguished Service Crosses for extraordinary
heroism and two Silver Stars for exceptional valor. He also has three
Purple Hearts. He fought in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf war.

But in a December interview with The Associated Press, the outgoing
director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy said, "I've seen
more misery in this job, more human destruction than I did in combat."

He will join the faculty at West Point as its Olin Distinguished Professor
of National Security Studies.
