NEW DRUG LAWS 'GUARANTEED TO FAIL'
I applaud the decision to apply harsher mandatory sentences for
violent crimes, but copying the failed U.S. model for drug crimes is
a mistake. Jail time will not deter dealers. It may reduce the number
of small time growers, but organized crime will flourish. To borrow a
phrase Stephen Harper used in justifying his position on climate
change, this model "is guaranteed to fail."
