Prohibition Brings Crimes

I think that the law enforcement officials investigating this latest in a
string of home invasion style robberies over marijuana must be drinking too
much booze after work ("Robbery lands six in jail," news story, Jan. 10).
There is no way on God's green Earth that 50 two-week-old marijuana plants
could be worth $30,000 to $40,000. I sincerely doubt that 50 plants could
be worth that much even if fully mature.

It's sad to read so many stories about people being robbed and even killed
over the money that can come from marijuana.

Some readers will remember Joshua Glaser, age 20, and Jaime McMurray, 19,
both recently killed in unrelated robberies based on marijuana money.

There is way too much exaggeration in the failed American Drug War
especially when it comes to propaganda about marijuana.

I say we should legalize marijuana and allow people to grow it in the
privacy of their own homes, which would take the profits out of the
marijuana growing trade, saving lives and valuable law enforcement time.

The most ironic thing about this latest robbery is that, due to mandatory
minimum drug laws, the alleged growers will probably face more time in jail
than the robbers.

Marijuana prohibition is the stupidest law ever passed in America.
