IVORY TOWER
I'm glad The Province feels better about planned drug-law changes
because that "feel-good" claptrap is why the Conservatives did it.
The drugs will continue to flow, new jails will be built and filled
with prisoners, but our newspaper editors will be content in their
ivory towers.
We cannot jail ourselves out of the jam we're in, because so many
Canadians are dealing in drugs that the police can only arrest a tiny
minority of them.
Only when more Canadians are wasting away in jail than are free to
buy their publications will editors finally see the light and
grudgingly consider supporting the only effective way of reducing
so-called drug crime -- legalize all drugs.
