PERUVIAN GENERAL JAILED ON DRUG RAP
LIMA, Peru -- Gen. Nicolas de Bari Hermoza Rios, who led the armed forces
through much of the government of former President Alberto Fujimori, was
arrested on drug-trafficking charges.
Investigators said Hermoza, who is retired, protected the operations of
drug traffickers in the upper Huallaga Valley, one the world's main
coca-growing regions, between 1991 and 1993.
