GUNMAN ROBS POT CLUB IN RICHMOND DISTRICT

A gunman held up a Richmond District pot club, escaping with $8,000
cash and $12,000 worth of marijuana from display cases, police and
the club's proprietor reported yesterday.

The robbery occurred Thursday night after the Hemp Center in the 2500
block of Balboa Street had one of the busiest days in its two years
there, said proprietor Kathleen Lemons.

Now, the club is considering installing security door to help screen
those coming in. "I hate the idea of having to lock everybody out,"
Lemons said.

No one was injured in the 7 p.m. robbery. The gunman, whose face was
partially concealed by a scarf, jumped the counter and stuffed a
duffel bag with the cash from a register and safe and the marijuana,
she said. He threatened to shoot employees if they got up, she added.
