TEACHER INDICTED ON DRUG CHARGE
Meth Lab Found In Home, Police Say
ROCKWALL - A special education teacher at Lakeview Centennial High School
in Garland was indicted Wednesday on a charge of manufacturing a controlled
substance.
The indictment of Susan Deface Washington, 40, came less than a month after
her husband and two other people were arrested at the couple's Rockwall
home and charged with the same crime.
Ms. Washington could not be reached. Her attorney, Fred Shelton, said he
did not know about the indictment and would not comment. The charge is
punishable by two to 20 years in prison.
Reavis Wortham, a Garland school district spokesman, said Ms. Washington
would be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an
investigation. She has been on sick leave since mid-April, he said.
"We'll put a substitute teacher in there for the rest of the school year,"
Mr. Wortham said.
Ms. Washington had taught in the district since August, he said.
On April 19, Rockwall police were called to Ms. Washington's home in the
1000 block of North Fannin Street about a fight in the front yard. When
authorities arrived just after 8:15 a.m., they said, they found a
methamphetamine lab and drug paraphernalia in the home.
Police also reported unclean living conditions. Three children, ages 8, 9
and 11, who lived at the house were placed in the custody of their
grandparents.
Warren Washington, 41, of Rockwall; Eric Fassoth, 23, of League City, near
Galveston; and Courtney Dean, 19, of Webster, near Houston, were arrested
and charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. All
three remain in the Rockwall County jail.
Mr. Washington also had outstanding warrants from Rockwall County, Dallas
County and The Colony on charges that included evading arrest and violation
of probation on a drug possession charge, Rockwall police officials said.
Ms. Washington was not in police custody Wednesday. "We'll probably have an
arrest warrant for her on Friday," said Rick Calvert, Rockwall County
assistant district attorney.
