NO JOB FOR THE GUARD
This is not about the use of pot. But did Gov. Lynch authorize the
National Guard to be called out to help confiscate and haul away the
pot plants found in the home in Epsom (Monitor, Nov. 4)?
I understand that 1,400 marijuana plants is a lot to haul away, no
matter the size of them. However, the constitution stipulates that
the National Guard shall be used to help the police only in case of
natural disasters or to protect private property such as riots or
mass lawlessness.
Wouldn't it be more cost-effective to rent a U-Haul truck?
Confiscating pot plants does not rise to the level of what the
National Guard is supposed to be used for.
I think the National Guard has enough on its plate fighting Bush's
war in Iraq without having to fight our national war on drugs.
