FORMER NFL PLAYER PLEADS GUILTY

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Former NFL running back Kim Jones has pleaded
guilty to drug and weapons charges.

Jones, 49, who played for the New Orleans Saints, pleaded guilty in
federal court Thursday to conspiring to sell five kilograms of
cocaine and 50 kilograms of marijuana between November 1997 and
November 1998, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. He also
pleaded guilty to carrying a handgun in a drug trafficking crime.

Investigators found three guns and about $20,000 in cash in November
1998 when they searched Jones' home in Fort Collins, Colo.

Jones faces up to 10 years in prison and a $4 million fine for the
drug charge. He could be sentenced to up to five years in jail with a
$250,000 fine on the weapons charge. The sentences must run
consecutively.

Sentencing has been set for Oct. 15.

Jones played for the Saints from 1976-1979 after being drafted by the
Baltimore Colts in 1975.
