POINT TAKEN
I loved reading the responses from across the country, especially the
last one offered by Russell Barth (Teens should wait until they take
their first drag, Feedback, the Observer, Oct. 25).
Barth offers, - "pot is not only benign, it is the most medicinally
beneficial plant known to man"- He teaches our youth to stay away
from pot because - "It is not wise to mess with brain chemistry until
the brain is fully developed."
The only discussion worth pursuing is Brian Charles White's
well-written argument that reflects the pioneer spirit of
individualism that has served our country so well, (Pot argument
doesn't cut it in real world, Feedback, the Observer, Oct. 22).
In White's philosophy, the workplace has no right to intrude (drug
testing) on the personal business of the employee. This served us
well in the pioneer days but I am thinking the philosophy needed for
the 21st century is "us," not "I".
So, with "us" in mind, I am ready for society to take back some of my
individual (I) freedoms. Yes, for a saner world I am willing to let
my employer, for the safety of my fellow employees, check my urine. I
am willing to stop letting youth play video games such as Grand Theft
Auto and Destroy all Humans. I am even willing to give up my right to
own an assault rifle.
I would just like to list off a group of famous people who agree with
me about the dangers of drug use; Kurt Cobain, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis
Joplin, Jim Morrison, Bradley Nowell, Shannon Hoon and so on.
