UGA PARTY RANKING NOTHING TO BARK ABOUT

I was somewhat perplexed by the article concerning University of Georgia's
ranking 12th on the party school list ("Party schools ranking sees UGA No.
12 in the nation," Metro, Aug. 21). The first few lines of the article are
benign enough, with quotes concerning the school's balance between
academics and fun. Then the criteria upon which the schools were judged
nationwide were listed: consumption of beer, liquor and marijuana. This is
a good thing?

As a parent, how eager will I be to send my daughter to a school which is
considered to be the 12th-best university in the nation at which to get
stoned? With this new label, maybe some incoming freshman should switch
their majors to "bonging-out and munching" with a minor in "covert
joint-rolling."

I'm not naive enough to think that drunkenness and drugs don't play a part
of campus life, but to glory in being one of the best at it in the nation
is contemptible.
