TIGERVILLE METH LAB SHUT DOWN

Greenville County sheriff's deputies responding to complaints of a
suspicious vehicle in the Tigerville area stumbled upon a pile of
methamphetamine waste behind a trailer off of State 414.

Sgt. John Nantz, Sheriff's Office spokesman, said deputies busted the
second largest meth lab ever discovered in the Carolinas at 326C Stringer
Road Monday afternoon.

The information was not released until this morning because of a request by
the Drug Enforcement Agency that information not be released until today.

The agency was part of a task force that worked through the night to clean
up the area, Nantz said.

The arrested man's name has not been released, and Nantz said the lab was
in an area so remote that deputies were unable to use radio communication.

At least two more arrests are expected.

Deputies were called to Stringer Road around 2 p.m. Monday on an unrelated
call, and were walking behind the trailer to question nearby residents,
Nantz said. That is when they noticed the pile of meth residue.

The deputies called members of the vice squad, and they investigated the
building, Nantz said. They found a "very sophisticated system" and plans
for additional equipment to be brought in, Nantz said.
