8 TEXAS MEN INDICTED IN DRUG CASE
HOUSTON -- Eight men have been indicted for allegedly distributing a mix of
cocaine and heroin that prosecutors say led to the deaths of 16 people.
The men were charged with distributing a controlled drug that resulted in
death or serious bodily injury. The mixture included heroin, cocaine and a
mixture of "cutting agents," like baking soda.
Those indicted were Benito Almaguer, 41; Jose Colunga, 19; Andy Gonzalez,
25; Baldomero Guajardo, 24; Roman Juarez, 23; Charles Martinez, 22; Lucas
Martinez, 23; and Louis Michael Melchor, 18.
Attorneys for the men have said there is no established link between their
clients and the drugs.
If convicted, each could be sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.
