JACK IN THE BOX TIMELINE

June 12, 2000: Two police officers from an anti-drug unit of the St. Louis
County police shoot and kill Earl Murray of Kinloch and Ronald Beasley of
St. Louis, both 36, as they sit in Murray's car in the parking lot of the
Jack in the Box restaurant on Hanley Road just off Interstate 70 in
Berkeley about 4:45 p.m.

June 13, 2000: Police say the detectives who fired were from the Drug
Enforcement Administration and Dellwood police, and that they wanted to
arrest Murray after his third drug buy from an undercover officer. Murray
tried to speed away but rammed a DEA vehicle in reverse and spun its
wheels, unable to move, according to investigators who said the two
officers fired out of fear of being run over.

June 14, 2000: Police say Beasley was not a suspect but was shot because of
his proximity to the officers' target, Murray. Investigators disclose that
some of the event was caught on a restaurant video surveillance system that
took snapshots at 1 1/2-second intervals.

June 15, 2000: James Buford, head of the Urban League of Metropolitan St.
Louis, calls on Attorney General Janet Reno to launch a federal investigation.

June 16, 2000: The FBI announces it will investigate.

June 28, 2000: Nineteen critics of the shooting are arrested at the St.
Louis County Justice Center for refusing to leave the lobby after a protest
demanding that Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch turn over the
surveillance tape. He says he will not, to avoid tainting the recollection
of any witnesses yet to come forward.

July 12, 2000: About 25 protesters march on the St. Louis County Justice
Center while about a dozen cars of protesters circle the block. Nobody is
arrested. Organizers say they had planned a rush-hour blockade of Highway
40 (Interstate 64) near the St. Louis Galleria but called it off at the
request of the dead men's families.

Aug. 4, 2000: About 200 people gather to protest peacefully at the Jack in
the Box.

Aug. 28, 2000: After hearing 40 witnesses, a St. Louis County grand jury
declines to indict the officers. Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch says
he agrees with the decision.

Oct. 3, 2001: Acting U.S. Attorney Ray Gruender announces there will be no
federal charges against the officers. McCulloch, keeping a promise to
release details after the federal investigation was complete, provides
reports that identify the officers as Dellwood Detective Robert J.
Piekutowski Jr. and DEA agent Keith T. Kierzkowski.
