REVIEWS SAYS TROOPER JUSTIFIED IN SHOOTING PORT ANGELES WOMAN
Kitsap County prosecutors have decided that a Washington State Patrol
trooper was justified in the shooting death of a Port Angeles woman.
Trooper Ron Kessler shot Rosa Hammer, 27, on Aug. 9 during a struggle
in which he was wounded in the hand.
She was a passenger in a truck stopped on state Route 16 in Gorst.
The State Patrol said Hammer pulled a gun from her purse and fired at
Kessler as he tried to arrest her on suspicion of having marijuana in
her backpack. Kessler, 32, a nine-year patrol veteran, returned fire.
