RED RIBBON WEEK WAS A BIG SUCCESS
We want to thank the Freeport Police Department for sponsoring a food
drive in coordination with Red Ribbon Week for drug awareness. We
want to thank Janet Weber who coordinated the project, and Chief
Jerry Whitmore who said it was a great success. They collected 10,650
grocery items which were divided between The Salvation Army and
Freeport Area Church Cooperative.
It is fellow citizens like these who make this community a great
place to live. Through the generosity of students and faculties of
Carl Sandburg, Jones Farrar, Taylor Park, Center School, St.
Joseph's, Empire School, Lincoln-Douglas and Blackhawk, we are able
to continue to meet the needs of so many families who reach out to
The Salvation Army each day.
In October alone, we provided grocery orders for 602 people in 251
families, as well as 3,070 hot meals served and 1,825 food items to
seniors. This can only happen through the generosity of our
community. Thank you, Freeport!
We look forward to the participation of the community in our Tree of
Lights Campaign beginning Nov. 17 through Dec. 24.
