BROWNS PLAYERS HELD ON DRUG CHARGES

Police: Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrests Of Browns Players

Browns fullback Mike Sellers and cornerback Lamar Chapman were arrested
after a traffic stop and will face marijuana charges, police said.

Two bags of marijuana were found in the glove compartment of Sellers'
pickup truck and a dollar bill containing a white powder suspected of being
cocaine was found in a patrol car after the players were taken to the
police station, officer said.

Both were being held Tuesday in the city jail. Police said numerous
charges, including drug abuse-marijuana and possession of criminal tools,
were pending against both players. Police said they also planned to charge
Sellers with driving under the influence.

The Browns had no immediate comment.

Sellers' truck was spotted swerving and speeding at 11:35 p.m. Monday on
the city's west side, according to police reports.

Officers said they smelled marijuana and noticed "several clumps of pot on
the driver's floor" of Sellers' truck. Chapman, who was in the passenger's
seat, was seen putting what later was determined to be a marijuana
cigarette into a soda can, police said.

As he was taken from the truck, Chapman told Officer Duane Taylor, "I have
to talk to you."

Police said they later found two plastic bags of marijuana in Sellers'
glove compartment, and also "three burnt marijuana blunt cigars" in the
ashtray of Seller's truck. After the players were taken to the police
station, an officer found the folded-up dollar bill containing the white
powder.

Sellers refused to submit to a urine test at the jail, police said.

Sellers signed as a free agent with Cleveland in March after spending three
seasons with the Washington Redskins.

Chapman is out for the season after being placed on injured reserve. He was
taken in the fifth round of the 2000 draft. He played in seven games last
season.

The arrests of Sellers and Chapman follow drug-related issues involving two
other Browns players.

In Tuesday's (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, Browns rookie running back Ben Gay
revealed that a year ago he was dealing drugs after dropping out of a
junior college in Kansas.

On Monday, Jeremiah Pharms, selected by the Browns in the fifth round of
the draft, entered a modified guilty plea in Seattle on charges he robbed a
marijuana dealer last year.
