CHRONOLOGY OF FAKE-DRUG CASE

Prosecutors on Tuesday released a chronology of key dates linked to
fake-drug cases involving Dallas police narcotics officers and their
informants:

Sept. 12 - Prosecutors receive the first lab results in a large drug bust
by two Dallas undercover officers that reveal "trace amounts" of cocaine. A
detective in the case was contacted by a low-level prosecutor and informed
of the lab results.

Sept. 14 - Another lab test shows that no drugs were found in a
methamphetamine bust by narcotics officers, but the results are reportedly
overlooked in a prosecutor's file until last week. Four charges against two
people are immediately dropped.

Sept. 25-Oct. 9 - More lab tests come back showing little or no drugs in
large samples of seized evidence, while one or two smaller samples are
shown to be "pure cocaine."

Oct. 12 - The paid confidential informant linked to at least six large
cocaine busts passes a polygraph test administered by police concerning his
denials that he knew the seized drugs were fake.

Nov. 20 - Dallas police meet with forensics laboratory experts to discuss
how positive field tests could be refuted during laboratory analysis; one
possible answer points to officers' "training issues."

Nov. 30 - Dallas police begin a public integrity investigation.

Dec. 31 - Police Chief Terrell Bolton calls a news conference acknowledging
problems with the fake-drug cases.

Jan. 10 - The district attorney asks immigration officials not to deport
any more Mexican citizens accused of peddling large amounts of cocaine,
referring to them as "possible witnesses" to the investigation.

Jan. 11 - Dallas police provide prosecutors with information that helps
identify 59 drug cases associated with two narcotics officers and four
confidential informants.

Jan. 16 - Twenty-five pending drug cases are dismissed.

Jan. 18 - District Attorney Bill Hill asks the FBI to investigate possible
criminal wrongdoing related to the cases.
