CATCH DRUGGED DRIVERS - FAST
Abbotsford MP Ed Fast is supporting a crackdown on drug-impaired
drivers by the Conservative government.
Speaking Friday, Fast backed his party leaders to increase the
penalties for drivers found to be under the influence of drugs.
According to Fast, the proposed legislation would provide police with
more tools to detect drug-impaired driving. Penalties would be
increased, said Fast, while awareness campaigns would be organized.
"The dangers of driving while under the influence of drugs is
unquestionable," he said.
"Unfortunately, the ability to detect drug-impaired drivers is
extremely limited."
According to Fast, the proposed legislation would help police enhance
public safety by removing "irresponsible" drivers from the road.
"Far too often, drug-impaired drivers are only detected after they
have harmed or killed innocent bystanders and passengers," said Fast.
"This legislation in non-partisan. Roads are no place for impaired
drivers."
