TEEN'S MARIJUANA PROJECT PERMITTED, WITHOUT PROPS

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- School officials have allowed a 13-year-old to
present a science project that examines medical uses for marijuana.

The junior high school student was allowed to present her "Mary Jane
for Pain" project to classmates, but school officials later
confiscated her props -- including a marijuana-laced muffin and a
spray bottle of pot-steeped rubbing alcohol. They returned them to her
father, Joe Morris, rather than call law enforcement.

Morris said Mission Hill Junior High officials should have said
something earlier if they objected.

"Don't children have constitutional rights?" Morris said. "In a way,
it's censorship and that's not acceptable."

After reviewing the girl's research, officials agreed to let her
present her project -- sans props.
