Local Agencies, Organizations Receive Grants To Fight Drugs

Perry Township Schools will use a $47,982 grant from Drug-Free Marion
County to operate a six-week summer day camp in the Brightwood-Martindale
area for the eighth year.

Students from the Center Township neighborhood have been bused to Perry as
part of Indianapolis Public Schools' court-ordered desegregation.

The camp, which offers remediation and recreation, is open to students who
attend School 37 and Perry schools. Parents, youths and law enforcement
agencies take part, with Perry providing the teachers.

Randy Miller, executive director of Drug-Free Marion County, said benefits
of the program include not only leadership and life-skills lessons, but
also the improved relationships that police say have developed in the
neighborhood.
