NARCOTICS OFFICERS TAKE DRUG TESTS
Jefferson County police announced yesterday that all county police
personnel assigned to Metro Narcotics have voluntarily submitted to and
passed drug tests -- a move to ensure public confidence in the unit.
Detective Ray Leezer said yesterday that county personnel in Metro
Narcotics decided collectively to undergo testing. Louisville Police Chief
Greg Smith also approved a request by city detectives and commanding
officers in Metro Narcotics to be tested for drugs, said Alicia Smiley, a
Louisville police spokeswoman.
Leezer acknowledged that members are frustrated by recent allegations of
misconduct.
"In a unit like this it's very important to have confidence in each other.
When that confidence appears to be broken or undermined there is
frustration," he said.
