POOR RICHARD: WHAT WAS IT WITH RICHARD NIXON AND JEWS?

First we get the tapes of Nixon and the Rev. Billy Graham ranting about how
the Jews control the media.

Now we get tapes of Nixon blaming them for backing the legalization of
marijuana.

All this comes from yet another excerpt from those famous Nixon White House
tapes -- this one on the former president's expectations for the Shafer
Commission, a group Nixon appointed to consider what to do about marijuana.

This month being the 30th anniversary of the report, it occurred to Oakland
medical marijuana advocate Jeff Jones that the recently released batch of
Nixon tapes also covered the period when the Shafer report had been due to
come out.

It turns out that on the morning of May 26, 1971, a ticked-off Nixon told
his main henchman, H.R. "Bob" Haldeman, that he was looking for a "strong
statement on marijuana" to come out.

As for those advocating legalization, he said, "You know it's a funny thing,
every one of the bastards that are out for legalizing marijuana is Jewish.
What the Christ is the matter with the Jews, Bob, what is the matter with
them? I suppose it's because most of them are psychiatrists, you know,
there's so many, all the greatest psychiatrists are Jewish."

Maybe, he should have called one . . . for help.

By the way, in a tape just two weeks earlier, Nixon also ragged on our fair
city, saying it had gotten "so faggy" that "I won't shake hands with anybody
from San Francisco."
