ACCUSED METH-MAKER TO DO TAPE FOR POLICE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- A man accused of several drug offenses plans to give
police a cooking lesson. But Rodney Flora won't be making a casserole or
dessert -- he'll be whipping up a batch of methamphetamine.

Flora, described by authorities as one of west-central Indiana's largest
makers of methamphetamine, will help produce a video showing officers how
the illegal stimulant is made.

Flora submitted an agreement this week that calls for him to plead guilty
to six felony drug charges and get 10 years in prison.

The agreement also stipulates that the 35-year-old help the Vigo County
Drug Task Force produce two educational videos about the drug.

On an anti-drug tape, Flora will share personal stories about his
experiences with the drug, said Daniel Weber, one of his attorneys.

On another tape, intended only for police use, Flora will demonstrate how
to manufacture meth and discuss various chemicals used in the drug, said
Denzil Lewis, a detective assigned to the task force.

"Many police officers, prosecutors and probation officers have no idea
exactly how meth is made," Lewis told the Tribune-Star.

"Flora's actually going to make it. It's for law-enforcement use. It's to
teach police officers exactly how the methamphetamine is cooked."

Flora was arrested Oct. 11 after fleeing in a van containing a mobile meth
lab. He has been jailed since. A judge set an April 22 hearing to consider
Flora's plea and sentence him.

The tape will be shown only to select audiences.

"Obviously, it could be a problem if it fell into the wrong hands," Lewis
said. "We're going to keep a tight hold on this video."
