OFFICER, KIN FACE CHARGES IN DRUG CASE

A 12-year veteran of the New Roads Police Department and his cousin
were charged Wednesday with drug offenses.

Sgt. Louis Martin of New Roads faces a single charge of distribution
of cocaine. Henry Martin of New Roads is charged with possession of
cocaine and marijuana.

The two men waived formal indictment by a grand jury and were charged
in bills of information in U.S. District Court in Baton Rouge.

Louis Martin, who was also a bus driver for the Pointe Coupee Parish
School Board, is being held in the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail and
has been suspended from the police department. Henry Martin is free
on bail.

The bills of information accuse Louis Martin of selling cocaine to an
undercover U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent on March 13.

Henry Martin, arrested at the same time as Louis Martin, is accused
of having cocaine and marijuana with him during the meeting with the
DEA agent. Louis Martin is accused in a criminal complaint of selling
9 grams of cocaine and about 27 grams of marijuana to an undercover
agent and an informant between January and March.
