FORMER COP SENTENCED

WINSTON-SALEM (AP) -- A former Thomasville police sergeant has been
sentenced to two years in federal prison for his part in a drug trafficking
ring.

Russell McHenry pleaded guilty in January to possession with intent to
deliver marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy. He was sentenced in federal court
Friday.

McHenry received a reduced sentence after becoming an FBI informant in a
drug case involving four other law enforcement officers and two other men.

"You've done some horrible things," Judge Carlton Tilley said at the
sentencing hearing. "And you've done some brave things to offset them."

McHenry worked with the FBI and the State Bureau of Investigation to gather
information against former Davidson deputies Lt. David Scott Woodall, Lt.
William Monroe Rankin and Sgt. Douglas Edward Westmoreland; former Archdale
police Sgt. Christopher James Shetley; and Wyatt Nathan Kepley and Marco
Aurelio Acosta Soza.

The six men pleaded guilty to federal drug charges in March. They will be
sentenced this month.

The men conspired to distribute cocaine, marijuana, anabolic steroids and
ecstasy, [according to?] court documents.
