INQUEST TO BEGIN IN MAN'S DEATH AFTER DRUG RAID

A coroner's inquest will begin tomorrow into the death of a man who
suffered a heart attack during a cocaine raid.

Johannes Speek died last April on the night of his 57th birthday, shortly
after police raided his daughter's house in Embrun. Police seized drugs
with a street value of $62,000.

Mr. Speek's complained of chest pains after being arrested and was taken to
Ottawa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Mr. Speek's son, Jonathan,
said his father died because police "scared the s--t out of him."

The Special Investigations Unit, which investigates serious injuries or
deaths involving police, ruled OPP officers were not responsible for Mr.
Speek's heart attack.
