EX-COWBOY ACCUSED OF DRUG POSSESSION

From Staff Reports

A former Dallas Cowboy and current University of North Texas assistant
football coach was arrested Thursday at an Arlington topless club on drug
charges, police said.

Kelvin Martin, 37, was taken into custody at Flashdancer, 520 N. Watson
Road, after an officer observed him "sniffing what appeared to be a white,
powdery substance," said Christy Gilfour, an Arlington police spokeswoman.

"The officer notified patrol officers, and he was arrested," Mrs. Gilfour
said. "We did find what appeared to be drugs on him."

Police declined to comment on what type of drug it was believed to be until
the substance is tested.

Mr. Martin of Keller was arrested on one count of possession of less than a
gram of a controlled substance, a state jail felony punishable by up to 2
years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine, Mrs. Gilfour said. He was released
on $4,000 bail.

Mrs. Gilfour said officers were at the club conducting routine undercover
operation.

"The officers were instructed to look for any type of alcohol or drug
offenses as well as any other type of arrestable offense," she said.

UNT Athletic Director Rick Villarreal, in a telephone interview from
Austin, said that neither he nor coach Darrell Dickey could comment until
they knew the details of what happened.

"This is the first I've heard about it. We know Coach Martin was going to
join the team this afternoon [in Austin]," Mr. Villarreal said. "He was
taking care of a family matter and joining the team today."

Mr. Martin was a fourth-round draft pick of the Cowboys in 1987. He played
wide receiver for the Cowboys from 1987 to 1992 and again joined the team
for the 1996 season. He also suited up for the Seattle Seahawks and the
Philadelphia Eagles during his 10-year NFL career.

Mr. Martin is in his second season as wide receivers and special teams
coach at UNT, which opens the season Saturday against the University of
Texas in Austin.
