U.S. RELEASES $42 MILLION FOR COLOMBIAN MILITARY
The Bush administration released about $42 million in aid to the Colombian
military Monday after determining that there was enough improvement in its
human-rights record to meet congressional requirements for such aid.
Release of the funds was contingent upon a finding that the Colombian
military had suspended personnel guilty of grave human-rights violations,
cooperated with prosecutors in rights cases and was severing ties with
paramilitary groups
