U.S. DRUG CZAR TO VISIT RENO
John P. Walters, President Bush's drug czar, is scheduled to visit Reno
Oct. 10-11 to discuss a Nevada ballot question that asks voters whether to
legalize the possession of 3 ounces or less of marijuana.
Walters, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, will
appear at press conferences each day with community leaders and law
enforcement officials to show their united opposition to the legalization
of marijuana.
He is expected to discuss the importance of drug treatment, explain why he
believes it is a myth that marijuana is harmless and detail what he
believes is the threat that drug legalization poses to America.
The Oct. 10 press conference is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Airport Plaza
Hotel at 1981 Terminal Way in Reno.
Walters will join law enforcement officials Oct. 11 to discuss public
safety and what he perceives to be the public health risks of
decriminalizing or legalizing marijuana. It is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. at
the Washoe County Regional Law Enforcement Training Facility and Public
Safety Training Complex at 5190 Spectrum Blvd. in Reno.
