TEACHER IS CITED IN POT POSSESSION
Wednesday, October 09, 2002 - A teacher at ThunderRidge High School was
placed on administrative leave and cited in connection with the discovery
of a small amount of marijuana in the teacher's automobile. Brian Bown, 49,
of Denver was cited for possessing 1 ounce or less of marijuana, a Class 2
petty offense, said Sgt. Tim Moore of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
A statement from the Douglas County School District said the discovery was
made during a random drug search of lockers and cars in the school's
parking lot Monday using drug-sniffing dogs from the Sheriff's Office.
The search, which was the first in a new program at all the county's high
schools, identified nine cars as possibly having trace amounts of illegal
substances, and subsequent searches cleared all but the one car, according
to the statement.
The charge carries a possible $100 fine upon conviction.
Bown was immediately placed on leave following the discovery, pending the
outcome of an investigation by the district.
