LAGUNA MAN IS ARRAIGNED IN MEDICAL-MARIJUANA CASE
A Laguna Beach man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to two felony counts of
cultivation and possession of marijuana for sale.
Ross Embry, 53, an HIV patient who said he uses marijuana to relieve nausea
caused by his medication, faces a preliminary hearing Oct. 30 in Harbor
Justice Center.
Embry had been growing the marijuana plants on the outdoor patio at Hagan
Place, a complex housing HIV patients, for about five years, he said.
Laguna Beach police arrested him Sept. 17 and seized 12 plants and more
than a pound of cut marijuana. Embry was released on his own recognizance
hours after the arrest and will not have to post bail.
