POLICE: 44 EXTRA OFFICERS NEEDED FOR DOWNTOWN EASTSIDE
Vancouver police want 44 additional police officers to police the Downtown
Eastside.
"That's the goal - to have additional officers that can...stabilize that
area and can disrupt and deter open drug use and trafficking," Const. Sarah
Bloor said yesterday.
The department yesterday swore in 18 new officers, 11 men and seven women,
with an average age of 29. The city now has 1,200 officers.
