MARIJUANA ARREST SNARES POLICE OFFICER

A Philadelphia police officer on administrative leave was indicted on
conspiracy and drug charges in Portland for allegedly trying to buy
marijuana from two men who were under surveillance by federal drug agents.

Hien Van Woertz was arrested by U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration
agents, the indictment states.

Van Woertz was living in Seattle at the time but allegedly had arranged to
meet the men in a parking lot near Mall 205 in Southeast Portland. Van
Woertz is on administrative leave from the Philadelphia Police Department's
35th District. Officials in Philadelphia could not be reached for comment.

The indictment unsealed Thursday charges Van Woertz, Randall Alan Clarke
and Daniel Adam Grant with one count each of conspiracy to possess and
distribute marijuana and pseudoephedrine and one count of possession with
intent to distribute marijuana. Clark and Grant also were charged with
distribution of pseudoephedrine. -- Mark Larabee
