PARENTS ARRESTED AFTER CHILD TAKES POT TO SCHOOL

The parents of a 6-year-old Nan Gray Davis Elementary School first-grader
were arrested Monday after the boy brought marijuana to school in his Star
Trek lunch box, authorities said.

Shane McBryde, Mobile County sheriff's spokesman, said the boy discovered
the marijuana shortly after noon and showed it to his teacher.

McBryde said deputies arrested the boy's mother, Brandi Leigh Williams, 25,
and his stepfather, Wyman Robinson, 36, at their home on Old Pascagoula Road
in Theodore.

School Principal Susan White could not be reached for comment. No
disciplinary action was taken against the child, McBryde said.

"The boy opened his lunch box but he didn't know what it was," McBryde said
of the marijuana. "He took it to his teach er, and she recognized it and
called the sheriff's office."

The lunch box contained about an ounce of marijuana, said McBryde. Deputies
found 3 ounces of marijuana in the south Mobile County home and two
marijuana plants about 8 inches tall, he said.

Williams and Robinson each was charged with first-degree possession of
marijuana, and Chester also was charged with possession of a controlled
substance in pill form, said McBryde. He said he did not know what was in
the pills.

Williams and Robinson were taken to Mobile County Metro Jail where they were
released on $2,500 bond each.
