LAREDO DRUG BUST SETS RECORD
LAREDO - A tractor-trailer supposedly hauling glass bottles across
the Mexican border contained 9,331 pounds of marijuana, U.S. Customs
officials said Tuesday.
Friday's seizure - 4.5 tons - was the largest ever at the
decade-old Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge, Customs spokesman
Rick Pauza said.
"This certainly indicates that there's large quantities being
stockpiled on the Mexican side," Pauza said.
The driver of the truck, 29-year-old Juan Carlos Garcia-Maldonado of
Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, was arrested on federal charges of importation
and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
