Drugged Driving

GET DRUGGIES OFF THE STREETS

I am absolutely appalled by the arguments Wayne Phillips put forward
against the federal Conservative government's initiative to test for
drugged driving, "Law will add danger to our roads," Nov. 22.

Phillips states that persons who may still have drug remnants in
their system would accelerate through a R.I.D.E. program and into
other vehicles through fear of their employers finding out that they
are drug users.

Let the record show that marijuana is still illegal to possess and
consume, although no longer a criminal offence. Your employer should
find out that you are a drug user so they can get you help (if you're
so inclined) or show you the door. Aside from that, any level of
impaired driving, whether it is alcohol or drugs, needs to be dealt
with heavy handedly. Our courts are too lenient and our public too
willing to forgive.

Congrats to the Tories for getting tough on crime and looking out for
the public's interest. With their help, we will take back our
streets. Druggies and drunks do not belong on them.
