TRAFFIC STOPS LEAD TO $9.2M OF DRUGS

More than 1,300 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $9.2 million has
been seized by RCMP officers in south-east Saskatchewan in the past six weeks.

Information about the seizures was made public by the RCMP on Friday.

Last Saturday members of the Moosomin Detachment and Broadview Traffic
Services stopped an eastbound vehicle for a traffic violation, said RCMP
spokesman Cpl. Brian Jones.

RCMP officers found more than 600 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle with a
estimated street value of $4 million.

Two Brampton, Ont. men, Arshpreet Singh Butter, 21, and Kuldeep Singh
Dhaliwal, 23, will appear in Broadview Provincial Court on Wednesday
charged with a variety of offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substance
Abuse Act.

Jones said on Feb. 6 Mounties near Moosomin made two additional seizures
when they stopped an eastbound semi-trailer unit on the Trans-Canada
Highway and discovered 583 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $3.9
million on the street.

Kamaldeep Singh Dhaliwal, , and Avtar Singh Chohan, 23, both of Brampton,
Ont. were charged in connection with this drug seizure and are scheduled to
appear in Broadview Provincial Court on Wednesday.

Earlier that day, they stopped another eastbound vehicle for a minor
traffic offense. Police seized 100 pounds of marijuana and $28,800.

Margaret Fitch, 33, of Winlaw, B.C. has been charged with a number of
drug-related offences in connection with this incident and will be
appearing in Moosomin Provincial court on March 4.

Jones said RCMP made a fourth drug bust on Jan. 11 when they stopped an
eastbound vehicle for a minor highway traffic offence on the outskirts of
Regina. This time they seized 98 pounds of marijuana with an estimated
street value of $670,000.

Two Toronto men, Long Kim Nguyen, 33, and Chin Thi Nguyen, 32, have been
charged in connection with this incident and appeared in provincial court
in Regina earlier this week.
