DEAR JON
From: Alan Randell, Victoria.
Subject: Your comments about curbing drug crime.
Alan: Why on earth do you support a ridiculous program like drug
prohibition? . . . Let's get a few things straight about drugs. First, no
government has the right to punish anyone for ingesting anything, HOWEVER
HARMFUL. Second, the consequences of prohibition are worse than anything
that preceded it . . .
Jon: OK, so governments don't have the right to punish people for ingesting
anything, however harmful. But don't they have a right to stop them from
murdering and beating up other people and stealing their property to feed
their drug habits, not to mention turning whole neighbourhoods into
something out of Dante's Inferno?
