CAN'T FEDS GET ANYTHING RIGHT?

The Ottawa Citizen

The RCMP estimates at least 800 tonnes of marijuana are grown in Canada
every year, from a few plants tucked away in a closet to several thousand
plants hidden in warehouses or underground in bunkers. To quote the U.S.
justice department, which tries to stop Canadian marijuana entering the
U.S., "cannabis cultivation has become a thriving industry in Canada."

A thriving business, it seems, for everyone but the Canadian government.
More than three years after the federal government set out to grow
marijuana for medicinal use in Canada, it still hasn't been able to produce
any that's suitable for clinical trials.

The problem isn't poor-quality government marijuana, but rather that the
publicly produced pot is too strong, weighing in with a potency about five
times that of ordinary marijuana available from any street dealer.

This situation would be laughable were is not so tragic. The federal
government grants some seriously ill people medical exemptions to use
marijuana, yet its incompetence in producing medical marijuana means these
people are forced to break the law to exercise their legal rights.

Earlier this year, an Ontario court said that violates the Charter of
Rights and gave the government until June to get the mess sorted out. But
these latest revelations suggest it will miss that deadline.

If the government can't even grow marijuana when so many ordinary Canadians
can, why should anyone trust it to run so many other aspects of our daily
lives?
