FORMER POLICE OFFICER IN LOUISVILLE CONVICTED OF DRUG MISDEMEANORS
A former Louisville police officer is expected to be sentenced in August
after she was convicted Thursday of three misdemeanor drug charges.
A jury found Ella Scott guilty of two counts of facilitation to illegal
possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm - with
one count involving cocaine and the other marijuana, prosecutor Bill Adams
said. She also was convicted of one count of facilitation to illegal
possession of drug paraphernalia while in possession of a firearm, Adams
said.
Sentencing will take place in about six weeks, said Adams, who said he was
satisfied with the verdict.
Scott had been charged with three felonies: trafficking in cocaine and
marijuana while in possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of drug
paraphernalia.
Her husband, Charles Scott, pleaded guilty in March to drug-related charges.
A police investigation of Charles Scott led to a search of the couple's home
last August and the charges against Ella Scott, who had been a police
officer for seven years at that time.
A mistrial was declared in Ella Scott's case in March after a detective
testified that writing on a T-shirt in her closet - "game ain't to be told,
it's to be sold'' - referred to dealing drugs. This week's proceedings began
Tuesday and the verdict was reached Thursday night.
Steve Schroering, Ella Scott's attorney, said he and his client are happy
there were no felony convictions.
"However, I don't believe that she was guilty of any criminal conduct at
all," Schroering said.
The overwhelming evidence was that her husband was dealing drugs, Adams
said.
