FURNACE SPORES COULD PUT GROW-OPS OUT OF BUSINESS
KELOWNA -- A product that spells death to marijuana grow-ops is about to go
on the market in B.C.
The product, a powder made from hemp pollen, turns budding pot to seed.
"A seed crop is worth nothing," said Michael Glendinning, spokesman for No
Grow. "They've just got to trim it off and throw it away."
For $39.95 a month, No Grow will spray the powder into a customer's furnace
once a year as a deterrent to people renting a house to grow marijuana.
The spores are circulated through the house. The spores fertilize any
female marijuana buds -- the prized part of the plant that is dried and
smoked -- which then produce worthless seed.
Within the next 30 days, $3-million worth of the product will be on sale
throughout B.C.
Since the product's launch in Kelowna July 3, Glendinning said he's
received several angry phone calls from "unhappy people."
He said the calls are further proof No Grow works and will force growers to
"change their strategy."
"If you want to grow this stuff, do it in your own home," he said, adding
several of the No Grow partners have had to foot the bill after their
houses were damaged by pot growers.
Grow-ops are routinely booby-trapped and the extreme heat and continuous
flow of electricity make them dangerous for emergency personnel, said
Kelowna Coun. Ron Cannan, who supports No Grow.
"My concern is for the safety of our emergency personnel, especially the
firefighters," he said. "It's only a matter of time before one of them will
be seriously injured or killed because of a grow operation."
