OTTAWA TO PROVIDE MEDICAL MARIJUANA: REPORT

TORONTO - There's a report that the federal government will ask doctors to
distribute medical marijuana grown in a Manitoba lab.

CTV News quoted sources Tuesday as saying the lab has now produced 370
kilograms of marijuana suitable for medical use.

Six months ago, an Ontario court ordered Health Canada to improve access to
medical marijuana.

Ottawa is appealing that decision, but the court imposed a deadline of
Wednesday to set new rules for people who have a medical need for marijuana
but can't get it legally.

Grown in an abandoned mine

Ottawa began growing a supply of marijuana in an abandoned mine in Flin
Flon, Man., when Allan Rock was health minister.

But when Anne McLellan took over the portfolio, Health Canada announced it
would not provide the marijuana for medical use until officials saw
scientific proof that the drug was effective.
