SIU TO PROBE HOW SUSPECT WAS INJURED
The province's Special Investigations Unit is probing how a suspected drug
dealer suffered injuries in an arrest late Monday on a downtown Ottawa street.
As part of an ongoing drug investigation, Ottawa police stopped a vehicle
at 10:15 p.m. near James and Percy streets, intending to arrest the two men
inside.
In the course of placing one of the men under arrest, a scuffle occurred
and one of the suspects was injured to the extent he required treatment at
hospital.
Two investigators with the SIU in Toronto have been dispatched to
investigate the circumstances of the arrests.
The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates incidents involving police
and civilians that result in serious injury or death.
The director of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether charges
are warranted based on the findings of a completed investigation.
