DRUGS BLAMED IN HOLDUPS OF LETHBRIDGE CABBIES
Investigators in Lethbridge are blaming the city's growing drug trade for a
series of robberies targeting taxi drivers.
The third and most recent robbery took place on Sept. 26.
"It's people needing money, whether they spent too much on cocaine or they
needed money to buy more cocaine," said Lethbridge police Staff Sgt. Jim
Carriere.
The Lethbridge force decided to expand its special operations unit to five
constables in the wake of a drug bust last month that resulted in charges
against 19 people and seizure of $20,000 worth of drugs.
In the most recent incident, Jason Thomas Wilson, 28, Devon Jamie Peters,
18, and Anthony Paul Triska, 18, were charged with robbery.
