THROWING BOOK AT RUSH WOULD EXPOSE DRUG LAW FLAWS

While it's nice that some people think that now that Rush Limbaugh has
admitted to illegal drug use, he should be allowed to go free to become the
poster child for how drug users should be treated, I think he should be
given the maximum punishment prescribed under the law.

It's not that I think that drug users should be punished. In fact, I think
most of the current illegal drugs should be legalized. It's just that Rush
has been such a staunch supporter of drug prohibition that he should taste
his own medicine. Perhaps when some of Rush's conservative supporters see
the absurd punishment he receives, they will rethink their support of our
current drug laws. After all, he didn't hurt anyone else with his drug use,
and was able to remain one of the nation's premier conservative front men.

He, like so many people in prison today, was able to lead a productive life
all while abusing his body with illegal drugs. And he would continue to be
productive, if it weren't for our ridiculous laws, just as other users
would have been. But they don't have his wealth or personal connections, so
their lives are ruined by our policies in anonymity. They could have
recovered in rehabilitation but you can never fully recover from a felony
conviction.

Giving Rush the maximum punishment would be just the ticket to expose the
stupidity of our current drug prohibition.
