UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Marijuana use doesn't lead to violent crime but is related to property
theft, according to researchers with the RAND Corp. and Harvard
University. The influence of alcohol, by contrast, is more evident
among those who commit violent crime, the study found, according to an
AP account of the research.

Researchers also found that those who commit crimes under the
influence of marijuana are more likely to be caught. While they were
loath to draw definite conclusions about the incapacity of stoned
criminals, their findings may indicate why "dope" has a dual meaning.
