SPILL BEANS ON GROW-OPS: TORY
Ontarians renting apartments and buying homes should be able to
access a registry that would tell them if the property was once a
marijuana grow operation, Conservative Leader John Tory says.
"When the police this year have uncovered so far 450 grow-ops ...
that suggests that this is a huge problem and, of course, it's
spread right across the province," he said yesterday. "It's in
apartments as well as private homes -- it's a plague, it's an epidemic."
Tory called on the provincial government to move quickly to
implement an accessible public registry that would give people peace
of mind when moving into a dwelling.
Tory visited 2600 Jane St. last weekend where police found 22
apartment units being used as marijuana grow-ops.
If landlords knew that their properties would be listed on a public
registry, they might be more vigilant, he said.
