DRUG AND CRIME PROPOSALS TO BE REVIEWED BY COUNCIL NEXT MONTH

SURREY - Council will review a local task force's proposals on drugs and
crime next month.

"We have a number of recommendations, in particular having to deal with
children and youth," said Councillor Dianne Watts, chairwoman of the
Drug-Crime Task Force.

The task force, formed two years ago by Surrey RCMP and other agencies, has
come up with a proposed action plan to deal with drug and crime problems.
Watts said that until council reviews those recommendations, she doesn't
want to say what they are.

Once the policy paper is adopted by council, the task force won't dissolve,
but it will change to help guide the city in the implementation stage, she
said.

In the past two years, the city has tried to crack down on prostitution and
crack houses and methadone clinics.
