ANOTHER STAB AT LEGALIZING POT

Nevadans made it pretty clear two years ago that they weren't buying what
supporters of legalizing marijuana were selling, as more than 60 percent
voted in the November 2002 election against a proposal to allow adults to
possess up to 3 ounces.

It's not likely they'll be fooled into voting for a new measure that
reduces the number to 1 ounce this year.

Supporters of legalization hope to make live-and-let-live Nevada a poster
boy for their campaign by getting the state to thumb its nose at the
federal government. But Nevada is a more conservative state than they
recognize, and few Nevadans want their state to become a haven for
marijuana users or a target for the federal government's "war on drugs."

Marijuana is still a federal issue, and Nevadans are likely to let it stay
that way.
